U.P. Author Joy Ibsen to Have Book Signing In Covington Saturday TROUT CREEEK, MI - Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - Author Joy Ibsen of Trout Creek will be signing her latest book “Unafraid” from 10-2 pm this Saturday (June 27, 209) during the “Art at the Market 2009” summer art show inside the UP Made Artist Market in Covington at FinnFest 2009. “Unafraid” is co-authored by Ibsen and her late father Rev. Harald Ibsen, a Danish American minister. Ibsen rescued her father's sermon notes from an old filing cabinet. Each chapter begins with a part of one of Rev. Ibsen's sermons from the 40,s 40s, and 60s followed by how the pastor's message affects a member of the congregation (some autobiographical, some fictional) showing the relationship of the sermon to that person’s life. Nearly thirty years of timeless, straightforward sermons are grouped according to the church year (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost) beginning with Christmas 1939 as delivered in small, rural churches in Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska. From war to a bad economy to other social and personal issues, reviewers have noted the issues of a half century or more ago detailed in “Unafraid” are the same as today. Over the next few months, Ibsen has appearances scheduled in five Midwest states. |
