Sara Forstrom Receives FMMHP Scholarship

IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, June 27, 2009 - The Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park (FMMHP) have successfully reinstated the Luther L. Wright High School Miners Scholarship. It was originally established in 2002 by Pat Krause, Guidance Counselor at Luther L. Wright, who has since retired. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants are required to have a relative who was a miner. Many Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park generously donated money on short notice to continue this important scholarship in 2009.

This year’s recipient is Ms. Sarah Forstrom. Ms. Forstrom recently graduated from Luther L. Wright High School and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Superior where she plans to study Biology. Sara’s grandfather worked at three different mines in the Upper Peninsula. Ms. Forstrom was awarded the scholarship at the FMMHP meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd.

The FMMHP is pleased to have the opportunity to support both education and to honor our rich mining heritage. The FMMHP is dedicated to the establishment, maintenance and promotion of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park. Please visit our website at www.superiorchronicle.com/mmhp.
