2009 Ren Faire Good Time for All
IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, June 21, 2009 - Did you ever feel offended when tourists say visiting the U.P. is like stepping back in time. Here's a group that considers that quite the compliment! Once again, for the third year running, the Midwest Amateur Renaissance Society (MARS), local businesses, organizations, and medieval enthusiasts presented the Lake Superior Renaissance Faire at Norrie Park in Ironwood. As promised on their website this year's faire featured Actors' and Bards' Guilds who provided entertainment for all tastes. The Artisans' Guild showcased a variety of artists and craftsmen at work, and gave fairegoers the opportunity for hands-on participation. The Field of Honor and Soft-Sword courts have always been popular with fairegoers, and this year's event provided some friendly competitions in these venues. Visitors to Norrie Park this weekend were able to tour the Medieval Encampment, watch fencing demonstrations in the fighting rings, shop for handcrafted items in the marketplace, and indulge in excellent food and drink from proud purveyors. Congratulations to the Midwest Amateur Renaissance Society for hosting another successful faire. The Lake Superior Renaissance Faire and Norrie Park fit well together. The Ren Faire is one of the events the City of Ironwood needs to embrace as a real tourist attraction. Events like this make Ironwood a destination. The City of Ironwood is fortunate to have such a beautiful park within its city limits, and utilizing the park for events such as the Ren Faire is a good way of showcasing its natural beauty.
