Friends of the Library to Host Teddy Bear Picnic
IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, June 29, 2009 - The Friends of the Ironwood Carnegie Library invite the community to pre-register their children for this year’s Teddy Bear Picnic to be held at the library on Thursday, July 16 from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM Central Time. The event is free, but pre-registration is required to help ensure all kids attending get their goodies. The deadline to pre-register is Tuesday, July 14. This year’s Teddy Bear Picnic will include games, prizes, face painting, story-telling and teddy bear raffles. Kids are encouraged to bring a bag lunch to enjoy at noon with free ice cream bars provided by a generous sponsor. What’s the Teddy Bear Picnic got to do with the library? The Friends believe it’s a way to introduce children to the library in a fun way, so that they begin to form a positive image of libraries, books and reading that will hopefully last a lifetime. While you’re at the library, have a look at the hand-crafted “Dick & Jane” lap quilt on display, and place your bid in the secret auction to win it. The quilt is the handiwork of Library Director, Elaine Erickson and expert local quilter, Sue Kangas. The high bidder on the quilt package will be announced during the Teddy Bear Picnic. Come to the library by July 14 to pre-register your kids for one of the summer’s most popular events. Call Gemma at (906) 932-0933 if you’d like to help or for more information contact Elaine Erickson at (906) 932-4789, Libraryboss@chartermi.net. Volunteers have as much fun as the kids they host. |
