911 Subcommittee to Meet Friday

IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, March 11, 2009 - The Gogebic County Enhanced 9-1-1 Subcommittee will be holding a meeting on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 10:30 AM in the Ironwood Public Safety Department Conference Room on McLeod Avenue, Ironwood.

At their last regular meeting, the Gogebic County Enhanced 911 Committee voted to place a request for a $1.65 per month per unit surcharge on telephone landlines, cell phones and voice over Internet protocol telephone devices on the May Election Ballot.

If the voters of Gogebic County vote down the request for the surcharge, the 911 Committee must be prepared to either find an alternative to the current Negaunee Dispatch in an some other way, cut costs in order to continue to provide Enhanced 911 service. Presently, the Gogebic Enhanced 911 Committee only has enough funds to provide E911 service through Negaunee Dispatch until January of next year.
