GCE-911 Committee Receives Optimistic Support for Ballot Proposal

BESSEMER, MI - Wednesday, March 25, 2009 -  Yesterday afternoon the Gogebic County Courthouse Basement Conference room was filled to over-flowing as the Gogebic County Enhanced 911 Committee hashed out plans to inform the public about the value of Enhanced 911 service. For less than a price of a cup of coffee each month telephone customers -- including landline, cell phone, and Voice-Over-Internet Protocol (VOIP) users -- have the security of knowing that quality health, police, and fire protection services are only a phone call away. With the enhanced system, rather than the Basic 911, help can be summoned whether you know where you are or not; and even if you are unable to speak.

In addition to discussing the upcoming ballot proposal that will enable the Committee to increase the ridiculously low current surcharge of only 30 cents per line to more managable fee (not to exceed $1.65 per line), the Committe discussed alternatives to save money while not compromising the quality and sercurity of the County's current 911 emergency services.
