Downstate Tournament Loss Doesn't Dampen Girls Hockey Team Spirit

ROCHESTER, MI - Sunday, March 8, 2009 - For the first time in the club's history, The Polar Bear Girls U-19 team competed in the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) Girls Tier 2 State Tournament in Rochester, Michigan. The event was hosted by the Rochester Hockey Club and was held at the the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester.

Even though they give a great effort, the Polar Bear Girls lost on Saturday morning to a very powerful and talented AAA select team.

"Our girls played hard but could not match up with the team from Livonia." U-19 Girls coach Stacy Ludtke told the Chronicle, "On Saturday evening the girls played another AAA team from West Kent. We fell behind 7 to 1 in the first period. In the second period we managed to rally back, scoring four goals to make the score 7 to 5. The West Kent team was too much for us adding three more goals for a final of 10 to 5."

Ludtke continued, "The entire U-19 team and parents would like to thank our sponsors -- Super One Foods and Dr. Franz Aukee -- the Chronicle and the many people who made this past weekend possible. We will always remember the time we had at the State Tournament."
