Relay for Life Gets Underway

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, March 10, 2009 - Gogebic County residents kicked off their 13th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on Monday, March 2nd, at Tacconelli’s in downtown Ironwood. Approximately 35 were in attendance as the Relay for Life Committee gave more information on how to get involved in this year’s event, including team sponsorship, fundraising, and introduced the Road to Recovery program and volunteer drivers. Aaron Ruotsala, the guest speaker for the evening, told his personal story of how his family’s lives were dramatically changed by cancer in the past year, and described the many ways that he and his family are ‘fighting back’ against cancer and also inspired to others to fight back!

The theme this year is ‘Relaying through the Decades’. Teams will focus their on-site fundraising and campsite decorations around the decades ‘50’s through the present. The Relay will be held at Gogebic Community College on June 12 & 13.

Please join us for the next Relay for Life team captains’ informational meeting on Tuesday March 24, at 6:30 PM, at the Comfort Inn in Ironwood. For more information on the Road to Recovery program contact Carol Decker at (715) 561-2344.
