Next Weekend the Silver Street Shoot-Out Marks Its 10th Year

HURLEY, WI - Saturday, March 14, 2009 - The Tenth Annual Silver Street Shootout 8-Ball Pool Tournament will be held next Saturday and Sunday, March 21 & 22, 2009 in Hurley. The idea of establishing a city-wide pool tournament involving all of the Hurley taverns was considered back in the 1980's. But it wasn't until 1999 that Mike Fontecchio, owner of Spider's Bar, embraced the idea and made it a reality. Many other communities hold similar yearly competitions -- Three Lakes, WI; Brule/Iron River, WI; Duluth, MN; and Virginia, MN, however no community is better situated with so many taverns within walking distance than Hurley.

This year's competition will involve three-person teams, and each match of the double elimination competition will be a race to six games. Standard Billiard Congress of America (BCA) rules will apply with cue ball in hand anywhere on the table on all cue ball fouls. All matches will be played on standard seven foot Valley coin tables throughout Hurley. The entry fee for the tournament is $100 per team and twenty percent will be added to the total prize fund. Teams are urged to register early as the number of teams is limited and the tournament fills up fast. Preregistration ends on Friday, March 20th at 10:00 PM. To preregister contact Spider's at (715) 561-5176 after 5:00 PM or Mike Fontecchio at (715) 561-2772. Play begins on March 21st at 10:00 AM sharp! For motel and restaurant information right on Silver Street, call the Hurley Chamber of Commerce at (715) 561-4334.
