NORTHSTAR Health System Announces Groundbreaking of New Marenisco Clinic

IRON RIVER, MI - Monday, May 18, 2009 - NORTHSTAR Health System is excited to announce that they are expanding their service territory by building and staffing a Family Medicine clinic in Marenisco, Michigan. The ground breaking took place on Monday, May 11th on the building site. The clinic will house reception and waiting areas, medical records, two exam rooms, a procedure room, a laboratory and digital imaging (x-ray).

 The clinic will be staffed primarily by NHS’s own Kim Mahler, D.O. Dr. Mahler is a Board Certified Family Practice and Emergency Room Physician. She is also an Osteopathic Physician trained in all aspects of allopathic medicine as well as osteopathic manipulation of the spine and skeletal function. She attended and graduated from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She did her internship and residency at Marquette General Hospital in the Family Practice Residency Program where she was Chief Resident.  Dr. Mahler was the primary Family Practice Physician at the Ice Lake location at NHS while concurrently working in the NHS Emergency Department. For the past six years she has worked full-time in the NHS Emergency Department.

The plan is to staff the Marenisco clinic five days a week (Monday through Friday). Patients can also be seen as urgent care walk-ins at anytime during normal business hours without an appointment. Initially, Dr. Mahler will split her time between the NORTHSTAR Marenisco and other NORTHSTAR locations.  The clinic will also be staffed with Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners to ensure that all of the needs of the area’s residents are served.  

The tentative scheduled opening date for the NORTHSTAR Marenisco is September 1st, 2009. Patients who intend to establish themselves with the new clinic can see Dr. Mahler at NORTHSTAR Genesee in Iron River until the new clinic opens.
