Thrill Ride Along the Black River

ALONG THE BLACK RIVER - Tuesday, May 5, 2009 - The Chronicle would like to thank Sam Davey for sending us the photos above and below and the following note: "Here is a photo of the kayak boaters on Black River. We were doing our annual walk from Copper Peak on the North Country Trail to the next to the last falls. On the walk was Sam Davey III, Anne Davey, Rae Semo, Jackie Powers and Ken Hazel. When we reached Gorge Falls there were seven kayak enthusiasts there and we asked what they were up to. They told us that they were going to do all the water falls including Rainbow Falls but not all were going to it as it was difficult. I have to admit it was breathtaking to watch them do Gorge Falls but most made it look easy with a couple having a few problems but they all made it and they were having a great time doing it. The walk along the Black River was fantastic with great scenery and you get to see parts of the river that most people do not see unless they make this hike. From Copper Peak to the first falls is 3.5 miles with lots of up and downs and I recommend it to everyone to take the hike and take in what this area has to offer that most people miss."
