Western U.P. Regional Non-Motorized Transportation Plan and Investment Strategy Under Development
BESSEMER, MI - Thursday, May 21, 2009 - On Tuesday, May 26, 2009, from 4 pm to 6 pm, a public open house will be held at the Gogebic County Courthouse Conference Room to gather input for the Western U.P. Non-Motorized Transportation Plan and Investment Strategy. Bike lanes, paved shoulders, widened curb lanes or separate pathways are a few methods to provide improved connections within your community. All Gogebic County residents with an interest in improving non-motorized facilities in the area are invited to identify local needs and share their thoughts and ideas. The open house is a follow up to community surveys and a Non-Motorized Summit held last fall.
The Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region is developing the comprehensive, regional Non-Motorized Transportation Plan and Investment Strategy for Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and Ontonagon Counties. The project is being funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation. Projects identified in the Western Upper Peninsula will be incorporated into a U.P. wide plan that will be used by MDOT and local officials to prioritize projects, identify funding sources and guide investment in the region’s non-motorized transportation system. Input and ideas can also be submitted via email to lhauswirth@wuppdr.org. |
