Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park Raise Funds For Scholarship

IRONWOOD, MI - Friday, May 15, 2009 - It has been brought to the attention of the Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park that the annual Miners’ Scholarship given to a deserving Luther L. Wright High School student has expired and will, therefore, not be awarded this year. The scholarship has been awarded since 2002.

The Friends of the MMHP (Miners Memorial Heritage Park) sees this scholarship as wonderful way to both support education and our local mining heritage. Therefore, Friends of the MMHP is soliciting Miners’ Scholarship donations to be awarded to a deserving Ironwood high school graduate.

Please help show support for our community, our mining heritage and our commitment towards commemorating the Caves area by contributing today to the Miners’ Scholarship through the Friends of the MMHP.

Checks can be dropped off at Coleman Engineering’s office at 200 East Ayer Street in Ironwood between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM this week or by 3:00 PM on Monday, May 18th , at which time the cumulative scholarship fund contribution will be delivered to the High School. We would like to match or exceed the previous years’ scholarship amount of $500.

Please make checks payable to: “Ironwood Area Schools” and add “Miners’ Scholarship” in the memo line.

We look forward to your participation!

Sincerely,

Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park

The Scholarship was the creation and the pet project of Pat Krause, former guidance counselor at the Luther L. Wright High School. (See Daily Globe clipping below.) Prior to his retirement, Krause personally funded the scholarship. He continues to fund two athletic scholarships in his father's honor.
