Two L.L. Wright H.S. Grads Awarded "Young Citizens" Chamber Scholarships

IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - At last night's City Commission Meeting Elizabeth Perkis and Kari Strand, members of the L.L. Wright High School graduating class, were each awarded  Ironwood City Commission "Young Citizens" Scholarships. These scholarships were established by the City Commission two years ago, and they are funded entirely through the generous donation of Commissioners' stipends.

Mayor Noren handed the girls their checks and then encouraged them to address the Commission. Kari Strand was the first to address the Commission.

"First of all, I would like to thank you all for picking me and Liz for the scholarship. I appreciate the money greatly. I need it! I plan to attend Lake Superior State University in the fall where I plan to pursue a career in physical therapy. I will also be running cross country and track there, hopefully."

"Thank-you everyone also!" Elizabeth Perkis said,"Next year I will be attending the University of Chicago to pursue a degree in International Studies. I hope to one day work in diplomacy perhaps with the U.S. Embassy."
