NFL selects Panther Run for One World Program

LAKEWORTH, FL - Monday, November 2, 2009 - The National Football League (NFL) has selected Panther Run Elementary to participate in the South Florida Super Bowl XLIV Edition of their One World: Connecting Communities, Cultures, and Classrooms program.

The program pairs fifth-grade classrooms of varying racial/ethnic backgrounds to break down any racial barriers among students and to help youngsters understand how much youth throughout the state have in common.

"Our students will be paired with a pen pal from a student from another school. This connects them with peers in a way that will increase awareness and understanding of diversity. Between now & the Super Bowl our students will be corresponding with their pen pals." said C.J. Cain.

The week of the Super Bowl, on February 1, the classes will travel via bus to Landshark Stadium for the One World Super Huddle event, where they will meet their pen pals.

Panther Run was the only school selected to participate in Palm Beach County . Panther Run is partnered with Norland Elementary in Miami & Chapel Trail Elementary in Pembroke Pines.

The school was allotted two classrooms to participate. Through a random drawing Mrs. Meyer & Mrs. Brennan's classes were selected to represent Panther Run in the program.

Each classroom teacher was also provided with diversity lesson plans to utilize. The One World program encourages children to respect one another, value diversity, and take positive actions to build stronger, more inclusive communities. The program also meets national standards in social studies, language arts, geography, and life skills/health.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our students. A wonderful learning experience for our students & something they’ll remember for a long, long time”, said C.J. Cain, physical education teacher at Panther Run. Cain is an Ironwood native, son of the former Ironwood Commissioner Mr. John Cain and his wife.
