An Evening With Jeff Daniels In Concert

IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - The historic Ironwood Theatre announced today that tickets are on sale for the December 14, 2009 appearance of singer/songwriter/humorist, Jeff Daniels.

Best known as a playwright/director and star of the Hollywood and Broadway stages, Daniels began singing in the 1970s in New York City clubs. In 2005, in the midst of a successful acting career, he released the first of his three recordings from a repertoire of over 400 songs. His Live and Unplugged album was released to fund the Purple Rose Theater in his hometown of Chelsea, Michigan.

The theatre derived its name from the Woody Allen movie The Purple Rose of Cairo in which Daniels starred. It’s where he started his own professional acting company, and on the recommendation of a friend, first took to the stage to raise money for the fledgling organization. From that start, Daniels’ singing career has expanded to main stages across America playing for standing room only audiences.

Billed as An Evening with Jeff Daniels, the Ironwood performance promises to be filled with wry Michigander humor and songs about “his wife, his life, and Michigan upbringing; off the cuff tales best told on a back porch,” as a Denver Post critic recently wrote in a rave review.

The Ironwood Theatre also announced that Wisconsin Public Radio will send a crew to record the concert for later broadcast through its statewide network. The first such event in the Theatre since the early 1950s.

Advance tickets for the December 14, 8:00 PM concert are available at the Ironwood Theatre office at 109 East Aurora Street or by phoning (906) 932-0618. Located near its ticket office the Ironwood Theatre, built in 1928, and its tall marquee stand out as landmarks in the community.
