1940’S USO Radio Variety Show
IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - Local talent will bring Abbott and Costello, who came to the theatre in the 1940s to sell war bonds, to the stage. Songs of the Andrew Sisters, the Modernaires, and the Bozwell Sisters will be performed by 3 different singing groups. Solo, duet, and larger groups will perform the tunes of MoonLight Serenade, Sentimental Journey, Swingin’ On A Star, I left My Heart At The Stage Door Canteen, Gimme A Pigfoot & A Bottle Of Beer, The Fuhrer’s Face, I’ll Be Seeing You, and more. Comedy vignettes of “Little Orphan Annie” and “Only The Shadow Knows” will be reenacted as if in the radio studio. Burma Shave and Chiquita Banana commercials will also be featured. Audiences will also be “wowed” by the USO Dancers and Rosie The Riveter Gals. A drum duet/solo inspired by Gene Kruppa will be performed by a local father/son team.
