Fire Destroys Outbuilding on North Star Near Vanderhagen

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Thursday, October 22, 2009 - Area firefighters battled an afternoon blaze in an outbuilding located at E4671 North Star Road in Ironwood Township. A neighbor spotting flames coming from the building and called 911. The building which was used to store firewood was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived. Responding to the the call were the Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department. They were assisted by the Ironwood Volunteer Fire Department and Ironwood Public Safety. Jake's Excavating, Ironwood, was brought in to bulldoze the structure. By spreading it out, firefighters were able to completely extinguish the smoldering building and contents. Firefighters did an exceptional job keeping the fire contained to the outbuilding. If not for their efforts, the fire could have easily spread to the owner's nearby house.
