Two New 16" Water Mains Being Installed On Lake Road

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Wednesday, September 23, 2009 - Snow Country contractors have begun installing the two 16" water mains on Lake Road in Ironwood Township for the Gogebic Range Water Authority. They started near the Jackson Road intersection and are heading south to Margaret Street. When that section is done they will head North of Jackson Road.

The new ductile main is encased in a protective sleeve which helps reduce corrosion. The pipe is then lowered into the ditch male end first where the female end is waiting with gasket installed and lubed for easier push joint connection. A continuity strap is then connected to jump the rubber composite gasket between the two sections of pipe. The continuity strap allows for tracing and thawing of the pipe if needed. When completed this project will be a much needed improvement to the area water supply system. Kudos to all those involved.
