Welcome to Little Girls Point
LITTLE GIRLS POINT - Sunday, September 27, 2009 - With mild temperatures a overcast sky looms over Lake Superior at Little Girls Point this Saturday morning. The shore line was calm with a slight ripple out on the wind line. The new bridge over Oman's Creek is shown in the background. Earlier Friday morning the mouth of Oman's creek was open but not for long. With no apparent wind, rollers began crashing in from the Northeast, probably due to a low pressure system out somewhere on the big lake. It didn't take long for the mouth to be filled in with rock. This morning Eric Oman on the dozer and Bob Tuma on the crane/dragline working under the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) began clearing the mouth. Keeping the mouth of Oman's Creek open is important to the late season fishermen/boaters and the Brown Trout that spawn up the creek this time of the year. Coho Salmon also hang around the mouth of the creek, probably feeding on whatever comes from the creek into the lake. Down the beach a ways were a few campers who were agate hunting, while a dog goes for a early morning swim retrieving a stick. Soon the temperatures will cool, the ice will form, and a few hearty ice-fishermen will be out on the big lake. Lake Superior in a word. "BEAUTIFUL."
