Area Search Teams Locate Two Missing Persons
WAKEFIELD, MI - Saturday, April 3, 2010 - At approximately 4:20 AM this morning, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible missing person, south of the City of Wakefield, on County Road 519. Deputies responded to the location and were unable to immediately locate the subject. Numerous outside resources were called in to assist in a continued search for the subject. Witness at the scene advised that the 18 year old male subject left from a party at a nearby hunting camp around 2:15 AM. The subject later sent a text message to a friend that he was lost in the woods. After an extensive air and ground search, the subject was located in a wooded area approximately 3 miles from where he was last seen. The subject was un-injured, but was taken for a medical evaluation as a precautionary measure. As the search team was clearing this incident, they were called to assist on a search in the City of Ironwood for an elderly female with dementia that had wandered away from her residence. This subject was located shortly after the team arrived in the search area. Further details on this incident will be released by the Ironwood Public Safety Department. Agencies assisting the Sheriff’s Office in both missions were Gogebic County Search & Rescue, Beacon Ambulance, Ojibway Correctional Facility – Emergency Response Team, Peter Koruga Jr. (Pilot-Air 1), Headwaters Search & Rescue, US Coast Guard - Air Station Traverse City, Capt. Ogden of the US Air Force - Rescue Coordination Center, Gogebic County Victims Services Unit, Gogebic County Road Commission and Negaunee Regional Dispatch.
