IPSD Infant Death Investigation Continues

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, April 22, 2010 - The Ironwood Public Safety Department is continuing its investigation in the death of a 3-week old Ironwood infant.

This morning at 6:38 AM, Negaunee Regional Dispatch received a call of an unresponsive infant at a residence in the 100 block of West Tamarack Street in Ironwood. IPSD officers arrived and immediately began CPR on the infant. Beacon Ambulance personnel arrived a short time later and transported the infant to Grand View Hospital. Continued efforts to resuscitate the infant were not successful.

A pediatric forensic pathologist will conduct an autopsy tomorrow in Minnesota.

The identification of the infant is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Ironwood Public Safety Department was assisted by Beacon Ambulance, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Gogebic County Victim’s Services Unit.
