Relay for Life Gets Underway

IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, April 11, 2010 - Gogebic county residents kicked off their 14th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on March 4th at Tacconelli’s in downtown Ironwood. Approximately 25 were in attendance as the Relay for Life Committee gave more information on how to get involved in this year’s event including team sponsorship, fundraising, and introduced the Road to Recovery program that’s been active for over a year in our area. Bob Toth, the guest speaker for the evening, told his personal story of how his life was forever changed by cancer, and he now uses his experiences to help other people through their journey with cancer.

The theme this year is ‘Cancer Takes a Holiday’. Teams will focus their on-site fundraising and campsite decorations around the many holidays throughout the year. The Relay will be held at Gogebic Community College on June 11 and 12.

Please join us for the next Relay for Life team captains’ informational meeting on Thursday, April 15 at 6:30 PM at the Comfort Inn in Ironwood.
