August Regular Meeting of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees<
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - At last night’s meeting of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees, new faculty members were introduced to the Board. They included English Instructor April Mateas and CAD Instructor Dennis Svoke, along with Business Instructor Kady Stone, Allied Health Instructor Karen Balyeat and Cosmetology Instructor Laura Erickson. Also, adjunct faculty for a number of on- and off-campus courses were approved for the upcoming academic year. The Board also approved the bid for the purchase of 39 new computers from Insight. Thirty of the computers will be used on the Ironwood campus and nine will be placed in the Houghton classroom area. Ruotsala Concrete of Ironwood was awarded the bid to reconstruct the upper parking lot on campus on Greenbush Street. A bid to replace the exterior locks on the automotive bay in the Technical Building and two panic crash bars on internal doors in Campus Suites was awarded to Stanley Security Solutions of Waukesha, WI. The Board approved entering into a lease with Kassbohrer All TerrainVehicles, Inc. to obtain a Piston Bully snow cat for use at Mt. Zion by the Ski Area Management Program. The machine that the college will obtain will provide the SAM students the opportunity to work with the most innovative and cutting edge equipment in the ski industry. It is one of the machines that debuted at last year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. The lease is for five years with a buy-out option at the end of the lease. An additional item that received Board approval was a Waiver and Consent form from the Gogebic County Treasurer on behalf of the College to strike delinquent taxes from the tax rolls that have been on for over five years.
