IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, August 4, 2010 - Dorothy Carpenter has been a part of the Grand View Health System for many years. Since retiring, she has been an active member of the Auxilary Board and Volunteers group as a way to give back to the community that she loves. Dorthy celebrated a milestone birthday on Sunday, August 1, 2010 when she turned 89-years old.

While some people might take some time off to relax during their birthday week, Dorothy decided to celebrate by volunteering in the Grand View Hospital Auxiliary Gift shop on Friday. She was welcomed and surprised with birthday wishes, cards, and multiple renditions of the Happy Birthday song from many members of the health system staff.

Dorothy’s dedication to serving the community has been steady throughout her life. In 2007, she was named the Volunteer of the Year for Grand View Health System. The staff of Grand View Health System, the Auxillary Board, and the Volunteers Services team all commend Dorothy on her years of service and dedication to the community.

Each year, Dorothy and the Auxillary Volunteers donate thousands of hours of service to the Grand View Health System. They help out by staffing our patient help desks, running the Auxilary Gift Shop, and helping out in different departments throughout the hospital. Volunteers are a very important part of the Grand View Health System, and they provide great service to our community.

Carol Goffnet, Grand View Health System CEO stated, “We are very lucky to have volunteers like Dorothy on our team. They are truly wonderful, caring, and dedicated people!” The next time that you see a helpful person wearing a blue jacket in the hospital, remember to thank them for making such a big difference.
