Klassic Kruisers to Conduct 2nd Annual Food Drive

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - Over the month of August, the Klassic Kruisers Car Club will be conducting their second annual “Kruisin’ for Kans” Food Drive to benefit a local food pantry. At their last three special summer events, the Kruisers will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items (please make sure they have unexpired dates), personal/health/ home care items, and/or cash that will be given to the food pantry. In exchange for each donation, the donor’s name will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize of a handmade wooden love seat and coffee table, along with a variety of gift certificates from local restaurants.

The first special event is the Gogebic Range Band Concert 7:00 PM at Longyear Park on Tuesday, August 17. The second event is the Drive-In Movie Night to be held on Wednesday, August 25, at the Sunnyside Plaza (sponsored by North Star Electronics) on the west end of Ironwood. Admission will be $5 per car, or one non-perishable food item per person in the car, to go to the food pantry. Each donation earns an entry into the drawing. The movie that night will be the pop classic “American Graffiti” (1973) starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul LeMat and Harrison Ford. A snack concession stand will be available. The gate will open at 6:00 PM, with the movie shown at dusk. This event is open to the public.

The last event is the car club’s Grand Finale Cruise Night on Wednesday, September 1, starting at 5:30 PM at the Liberty Bell Chalet in Hurley. This event includes a car show with voting by the public for two People’s Choice trophies, a 50/50 raffle, and music and karaoke from the 50’s and 60’s. All area classic cars are invited to attend the grand finale, with participants encouraged to bring a donation to the food drive, and everyone is invited to come see the cars and vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice trophies, along with donating to the food drive. The drawing for the prizes will be held that evening – you don’t have to be present to win.

Persons who wish to donate to the “Klassic Kruisers Kruisin’ for Kans” food drive who can’t make it to any of these events can drop off their donations and sign up for the prize drawing at Care-A-Van Convalescent Transport at 317 N.
