Summer Activities in Bessemer Cumulate With Music at Massie

BESSEMER, MI - Tuesday, August 17, 2010 - “Fish Fry and a Flick and Music at Massie was a great success this summer in Bessemer”, stated Donna Frello. A small group of people that attended the Spartan Project’s preliminary meeting in Bessemer decided to organize some family oriented events to spotlight the community and offer some fun activities. Denise Stevens spearheaded the volunteer effort and things just kind of fell in place with the support of local volunteers and businesses. “Without the support of all involved theses undertakings would not have been successful and we thank them for stepping up “, stated Stevens. The last event will be held on Saturday August 21st with a final Music at Massie concert. “We are so excited to promote the Tymepeace concert”, said Frello. “The music coming out of the band shell sounds beautiful and the football field and surrounding area are breathtaking!”

Thymepeace has recently reformed and what and Massie Field is a great place to start off again! About eight years ago a local musical group emerged concentrating on songs from the 60s and 70s that were vocal and acoustic in nature. The group became known as Thymepeace. Today Thymepeace has reformed with four of the original members, Dorrene O’ Donnell, Jan Stahl, Mike Armata and Bob Michaels. Joining them are Kathy Skolasinski, Brent Ridgley and Nick Wullf. Together they have decided to keep some of the old songs and add quite a bit of the new. From one point of view these seven vocalists/musicians bring over 100 years of musical experience to the table. As O’Donnell stated, “with this kind of talent pool we began to explore then started to grow”.

However, this is not the Thymepeace of yore. Yes, they have kept such tunes as the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” and Stephen Stills’ “Love the One You’re With”. Now they’ve added songs like “Deep Purple’s “Hush”, T-Rex’s “Bang A Gong” and Joan Jett’s “Hate Myself For Loving You”. “We’re going for the complete ‘Classic Rock’ package”, quipped Michaels, “from the heavy to the sublime”.

Thymepeace will perform their first concert at Massie Field in Bessemer, Michigan, outside in the recently renovated Bandshell on Saturday, August 21st. The show will start at 7:00pm beginning with Comic Matt Agee as your host followed by the band. Please come and join us!
