Island Resort & Casino Remains Committed to U.P. State Fair

HARRIS, MI - Saturday, August 7, 2010 – The U.P. State Fair is a highly anticipated annual celebration that gathers families from across the Upper Peninsula to enjoy the fun, great entertainment and attractions available to all ages. “Through the years we’ve been extremely proud to be part of that tradition as presenting sponsor of the fair including the grandstand series of headline entertainment and just as importantly, supporting the 4H youth and livestock activities,” said Island Resort & Casino General Manager Tom McChesney.

In addition to the Island’s sponsorship, the Hannahville Indian Community, owners and operators of the Island Resort & Casino, committed financial support ensuring the continuation of the fair after the state funding was eliminated. “Being recognized as a good community and corporate neighbor,” is how McChesney describes the bond that the Island and Hannahville have established throughout the region. “We want to do our part to ensure the continued success of such a special family-oriented event,” he stated.

Vickie Micheau, Executive Director of the U.P. State Fair Division of the Delta County Commerce Center said that the Island Resort & Casino sponsorship has allowed for a smooth transition from state to regional management. “We would not have been able to offer the first rate entertainment lineup and make improvements to the grounds without their generous financial support,” said Micheau.

The U.P. State Fair will run from Monday, August 16 through Sunday, August 22. Headline entertainment begins Tuesday with Gloriana; Wednesday – Orianthi with opening act Jesse James; Thursday – The Oak Ridge Boys; and Friday – Everclear. All shows begin at 8:00 PM. Tickets can also be purchased during the fair at the ticket office on the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
