GCC Alumni Founds Women's Fishing Club

OXFORD, WI - Monday, December 6, 2010 - A former Wakefield Women and 1979 Graduate of GCC has founded a statewide fishing club for Women. Barb Carey, currently living in Wisconsin, credits her childhood fishing outings on Sunday Lake for instilling a passion for fishing in her. The annual Ice fishing Derby held out of the VFW in Wakefield also created a love for Ice Fishing and forming the club was a way to share that with other Women.

Carey started having Ice Fishing Outings for Women in 2003 and since that time it has developed into a Women's Fishing Club called WI Women Fish. Even though the club is based out of WI there are members from several states and at one event there were women from 5 states there. The club has several outing every year to experience different kinds of fishing. The club goes to Milwaukee for Salmon Fishing, and has outings on the Mississippi River, Lake Superior in Ashland, goes trout fishing and will also be going to Canada in 2011. The club offers several classes and clinics and tried to get more Women to become involved in the sport. Carey says " Not everyone was as lucky as I was to be able to grow up in an area that people enjoyed the outdoors and were able to fish right in town". Many women don't have access to Ice Fishing Equipment and have no one to go fishing with. The club format is able to keep the fee's low and the events are very affordable. We can even provide gear to use."

Barb Carey is on the pro staff of several companies including Lund, Eskimo, Jiffy, PK Lures and others. For more information on the club go to www.wiwomenfish.com and there is also a Facebook page.
