IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, December 11, 2010 - According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, Michigan, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 3:00 am CST Saturday to 6:00 PM CST Sunday. Roads will become snow covered and slippery starting early Saturday and continuing through Sunday. The combination of falling and blowing snow will reduce visibility to under one-quarter mile at times Saturday through Sunday making travel very hazardous. Expect widespread snow to develop around daybreak Saturday then continue into Sunday afternoon. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 17 inches are expected by Sunday evening with the heaviest snow falling Saturday and Saturday night. The greatest snow accumulations will occur over the higher terrain from Ironwood and Wakefield to White Pine and Mass City. Blowing snow whipped up by north to northeast winds gusting as high as 40 mph near Lake Superior Saturday night into Sunday may result in near whiteout conditions at times. A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
