Grand View Offers Free CPR Anytime Training Session

IRONWOOD, MI - Friday, February 5, 2010 - Grand View Health System is hosting CPR Anytime training on Monday, February 8 at 6:00 PM to increase CPR knowledge and awareness among the general public.

According to the American Heart Association, almost 80 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member and only 6.4 percent of sudden cardiac victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR.

“We are proud to offer this program to the community,” said Geneva Smiles, Community Health Educator at Grand View Health System. “People who receive the CPR Anytime kits are able to take the kit home and train family members and friends lifesaving skills.” The American Heart Association says that, using the multiplier effect, studies have shown that for every single CPR Anytime kit used for training, an average of 2.5 people learn how to perform CPR.

The program is open to anyone in the community who has in interest in learning the lifesaving skills. Each CPR Anytime Kit contains a training DVD and a manikin, which inflates to practice ventilation and compression techniques that are part of performing CPR. In addition, information will also be provided on how to deal with choking in adults and infants.

The program will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Conference Area of Grand View Hospital. The program is limited to the first 25 participants. For more information or to register, call the Grand View Health Line at 906-932-2443.

The CPR Anytime kits were provided as a result of a grant from the American Heart Association to the Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care Heart Care Team. Grand View Health System is grateful to work in partnership to provide this education in the community.
