Young Heroes Save Building and All Inside from Tragedy

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - by Keri Singleton - Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - Last Saturday night could have had a far different ending had it not been for Jay and Jada Allen, the young brother and sister who woke up their Grandma to alert her there was A FIRE!

Barbra Allen and her boyfriend, and her four grandchildren were asleep last Saturday night, around 10:30 PM when they were awakened by five-year old twins Jay and Jada Allen, who woke them saying, “Nana, there’s a fire!” Barbra quickly got up when she realized they weren’t talking about any T.V. show. She was soon to learn the kitchen wall was on fire, and thankfully everyone was able to vacate safely.

The four-unit apartment building, located at N11431 Lake Road, Ironwood, was spared, and everyone inside safely vacated, thanks to Barbra’s grandchildren.

Jay and Jada were given medals by the Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) Tuesday Night at the Fire Hall in Ironwood Township, Michigan. They were beaming as they received their medals from IVFD Chief Jamie Peite, for being junior firefighters. They were praised for their good work and for knowing what to do.
