Polar Bears Win Price Ice Squirt A Tournament

IRONWOOD, MI - Monday, January 11, 2010 - The Polar Bear Squirts are champions of the Price Ice Squirt A Tournament. On Saturday the Polar Bears defeated Medford 7-2 and Calumet 7-1 to gain a first seed in Sunday's final four. On Sunday the Squirts beat Price Ice A Team 6-1 to gain a spot in the finals where they defeated the Wausau War Jacks 4-2 to win the championship.

Scoring goals for the Polar Bears were Tyler Morrison (8) (2 Hat Tricks), Warner Young (6) (1 Hat Trick), Gavin Mattson (3), Nathan Garnell and Caleb Baxter each with 2, Cade Mazzon,Brett Heil, and Mitch Hissa each with one. Assists scored by Mattson and Young with 4 each, Ethan Roehm (3), Ross Peterson, Tyler Morrison, Caleb Baxter each with 2, C.J. Sorensen and Nathan Garnell each with one. Matthew Clemens won all 4 games in net making 40 saves on 46 shots this weekend.

"I am so proud of these players! They have done so well being such a young team. I think our strides offensively and defensively are coming together as a team. They are a great group of kids all with promising futures in this sport. I am Blessed to have good coaches to help it all come together." said coach Scott Kellett.

The Polar Bears are off to Ontonagon next weekend the U.P. Play Downs Friday at 5:00 PM versus the Iron River Ice Hawks.
