Ironwood Public Safety Investigates Stabbing Incident

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, January 7, 2010 - The Ironwood Public Safety Department is investigating a stabbing incident that occurred last night.

At 2:32 PM yesterday, IPSD officers were dispatched to a call of a possible assault at a Rowe Street address in the City of Ironwood. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim, a 46 year-old Ironwood man with several stab wounds.

A short time later, IPSD officers with the assistance of the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police arrested the suspect, a 45 year-old Ironwood man at a Lake Street residence in Ironwood.

The victim was transported to Grand View Hospital by Beacon Ambulance and later airlifted to a Duluth, MN hospital.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated felonious assault with a dangerous weapon. He is expected to be arraigned sometime today.

The case remains under investigation. The Ironwood Public Safety Department was assisted by Beacon Ambulance, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.
