Area Deaf Gather in Wakefield for "Deaf Picnic"

WAKEFIELD, MI - Saturday, July 3, 2010 - The Range Area Deaf Club held their annual 4th of July Picnic at Eddy Park during Wakefield's Town Picnic today. In the past club attended fireworks in Duluth, Wausau, and Minocqua. This year's picnic was held in Wakefield to accommodate the club's senior members. The club holds regular monthly meetings on the first Saturday of every month and is sponsored by Deaf Services of America. During the winter months, the club meets at Knight Club Billiards, but during the summer the group travels to different locations to enjoy the weather.

Members attending today's picnic included Matt & Stacy Leasure and family; Bobby Fowler; Inez Sisko; and June Popko. Matt Leasure, Inez Sisko, and June Popko are charter members of the Club. Matt recently relocated to Ironwood from Madison, WI. Matt and Stacy are thrilled to be reunited with both Inez and June -- their very dear friends.

The weather couldn't have been nicer, and Wakefield's Eddy Park is truly a beautiful place. The Club enjoyed burgers, brats, hot dogs and beverages purchased from the organizers of the fireworks display. After a full day of eating, visiting, swimming and all around fun, the Club enjoyed the incredible fireworks display.

Next month, for the first year ever, a special CODA camp has been scheduled in Northern Wisconsin. Five area CODAs are planning to attend. Deaf Services of America will be helping parents with funding. The youngest child will be attending a special week-long day camp, while the others will be attending a week-long overnight session.
