IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - Every summer, Grand View Health System is fortunate enough to welcome a new group of Junior Volunteers. This year there are eight new faces present, and these individuals are spending part of the summer vacation by helping out with different activities around Grand View Hospital. Volunteers Manager, DeeDee Lorenson was excited to see so many individuals interested in dedicating some of their spare time by serving the public at Grand View Health System. Lorenson stated, “We look forward to getting the Junior Volunteers active in the hospital each year, and we have a great group for 2010”. The Junior Volunteers help out around the Grand View Health System in a number of ways. Students volunteer in areas such as Nursing, Registration, Clinic, Surgical, Social Services, and other departments within the Health System. The staff of the Grand View Health System welcomes the additional help and they enjoy sharing their experience and knowledge with the energetic volunteer team. Many of the Junior Volunteers use their time at Grand View Health System to help them to realize their future career goals. Junior Volunteers from recent years have gone on to complete nursing and other health related programs. After completing their education, these same individuals come back to start and maintain their careers at Grand View Health System. Nursing Manager, Amanda Pisco, was a Junior Volunteer prior to joining Grand View Health System on a full-time basis a few years ago. Adam Wennersten, Physician Assistant with Grand View Ironwood Clinic, was also a Junior Volunteer in the past few years. This program is open to students between the ages of 14 -18. It began on June 21, running for nine weeks. Each Junior Volunteer works a minimum of one four-hour shift per week, and is required to make a three month commitment to the program. It is an excellent way for high school students to learn about and experience health care related careers. Applications for 2011 summer program can be picked up at the Hospital volunteer Service office or call Dee-Dee At 932-6209 for additional and other volunteer opportunity in the Health System.
