Getting On Track for the 2010 Paavo Nurmi Marathon

HURLEY, WI - Sunday, July 18, 2010 - As of yesterday the Paavo Nurmi Marathon had a total of 222 registrant's: 22 / 2 person relay teams, 9 / 5 person relay teams, 35 ½ marathon, and 98 marathon. This is down from 265 at this time last year and the category that is slowest in registrants is the 5 person relay team.

"Overall, last year, the race had 59 total ½ marathoners so it looks like that category will continue to grow as we have been predicting. There is still plenty of time to register ---- visit our website www.paavonurmimarathon.com for a downloadable form to print and mail in, go to active.com and register online or call the Hurley Chamber office and they will gladly mail a registration form to you." said Rita Franzoi, Race Director.

Some new things to the event this year include:

  • Increased course safety.
  • Shuttle bus will stop at local hotels to pick up runners and take them to the start.
  • Registration / Expo / Spaghetti feed at the Hurley K-12 school, Friday August 13, 2010 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

Things that will be the same this year include:

  • Marty's Goldenaires to perform at the torchlighting ceremony Friday night
  • Lydia Patritto to sing the national anthem for the torchlighting ceremony.
  • Dorothy & the Boys will perform also.
  • Paavo finish line and festivities located on Silver Street , Saturday August 14. Entertainment to begin at 10:00 AM with local band Atomic Doll to play from 12:00 - 3:00 PM.
  • Awards ceremony, facepainting and balloon clown for the kids, free ice cream, donuts and coffee. Everyone is welcome!
