Parade to Kick Off 2010 U.P. State Fair - Michigan's Only State Fair

ESCANABA, MI - Thursday, July 29, 2010 – This August, the U.P. State Fair will roll into town, kicking off the weeklong festivities with the annual Opening Night parade. This parade will mark the inaugural operation of the Upper Peninsula State Fair since the State of Michigan turned the keys over to the Upper Peninsula State Fair Authority in October of 2009. On Monday, August 16th, local organizations, non-market livestock, agricultural equipment and midway entertainment acts will take to the streets to give the community a preview of the 2010 UP State Fair festivities and we want you to be part of the celebration by entering a float in the parade!

The parade will line up in Ludington Park beginning at 3:30 PM for floats and 4:00 PM for all other entries. The parade will step off at 5:00 PM, enchanting spectators along Ludington Street.

This year’s Grand Marshals will be various members of the community that have had a long standing relationship with the U.P. State Fair. The parade will include 2010 midway acts such as the Kenyan Acrobats, Whispering Pine Exotic Animals and Grampa Cratchit. Non-market livestock, tractors and entries from local organizations will complete the march.

The entry into the parade is free, and $500 in prize monies will be awarded to the best of the parade’s entrants. The last day for parade registration is Thursday, August, 12th at 5:00 PM, and all parade participants receive free admission on opening night at the fair. Admission tickets will be handed only to parade entrants and participants during parade line up at Ludington Park and are only valid for opening night Monday, August 16th 2010.

This year’s fair promises to be bigger and better than ever, as local management agents have worked to add value to fair admission and sponsorships alike. Monday night, which the parade kicks off, will offer fairgoers a chance to experience a glimpse of the festivities at a reduced gate admission of $5 for adults and $3 for youth aged 6 – 12. Children 5 years and under are always free! Gates open at the fairground at 5 P.M. Many thanks to the community for the continued support of the U.P. State Fair—Michigan’s ONLY state fair.
