It's All About the Birds!
BERGLAND, MI - Friday, June 4, 2010 - Want to learn more about birds? Where they live? What they eat? How to identify them? The Friends of Bergland Cultural/Heritage Center and Bergland/Matchwood Historical Society are partnering with the Ottawa National Forest to offer "All About Birds", Saturday, June 19, 2010, 10:00 Eastern Time. A bird box building workshop starts at 9:00 AM Central time, 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Materials and tools are provided; the cost is $10. All ages are invited to participate. Father's Day is the next day (hint); Dads or Grandpas LOVE hand-made bird boxes and would probably enjoy helping build one just as much! Pre-registration for the box building is encouraged, so adequate materials can be purchased and prepared. Contact Bergland Friends President Phil Ellsworth at 906-575-9004 to sign-up. A bird hike will follow, at around 11:00 AM Eastern Time. Local wildlife expert Jerry Edde will lead the hike. He will also be available throughout the morning to answer your questions about bird identification, the best places to view birds, and how to attract birds to your yard and/or feeders. The hike and advice are all FREE! All activities will take place at the former Bergland Ranger Station, on M-28, on the west side of Bergland. Please contact Mr. Ellsworth (see above) or Bessemer District Ranger Melanie Fullman (906-932-1330 x539; mfullman@fs.fed.us) with any questions.
