Thank You, Off-Duty IPSD, for Cleaning Up Ironwood’s Graffiti
IRONWOOD, MI - by Keri Singleton - Thursday, June 24, 2010 - Off-duty members of Ironwood’s Public Safety Department donated their time and energy to help clean up their city Wednesday afternoon. The city-wide effort is being done by off-duty officers, who will remove all old graffiti, then repaint the walls around Ironwood, Michigan. In a world being run by budget cuts, corruption, and greed; how refreshing to see members of our local police department donating their time; some after working all night. Officers on hand for the effort include: Ironwood Public Safety Department Director Bob Erspamer, Detective Rod Passuello, Officer Andy Leiphart, Officer Andrew DiGiorgio, Officer Matt Sterbenz and his wife, Katie, and Officer Brandon Snyder. Area merchants and others donated to help cover the cost of cleaning agents and paint. If weather would have co-operated, the "Graffiti Busters" planned on painting over buildings where the spray-painted symbols could not be removed. The group plans on organizing a second attempt to remove the vandalism. Anyone wishing to participate can get more information by calling (906) 932-1234. Anyone having information relating to the vandals who have been spray-painting area buildings can also call that number.
