‘Cancer Takes a Holiday’ on the Gogebic Range

IRONWOOD, MI - Friday, June 4, 2010 - The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Gogebic Range is fast approaching. This is the fourteenth year the event has been held in our community. The event will be held on June 11 – 12th at the Gogebic Community College in Ironwood. Opening ceremonies for this year’s Relay for Life will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday June 11th, 2010, and will continue on throughout the twenty four hours with a great variety of on-site fundraising events, activities and entertainment. The Gogebic Range teams’ goal is to raise $45,000.

The committee is excited to announce some of the many entertainment and activities for this year’s Relay. Just to name a few are the:

Mr. Relay contest on Friday around 4:00 PM and the all teams lap will take place around 5:30 PM.

Cancer survivors are encouraged to register between 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM at the survivor’s tent.

Marty’s Goldenaires will be performing just after the survivor speakers, victory and caregiver laps which are scheduled between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

New to Relay and you don’t want to miss them, are the Rock Foundation Ministries and the Lowell Street Bands, which are scheduled to play in the afternoon through late evening.

ReMax is bringing their hot-air balloon and plan to be available for rides Friday evening, weather permitting.

Activities for the kids include wagon rides up Mt. Zion, Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning, dancing, morning hair contest and much more! Clement’s farm is providing a covered wagon driven by Road to Recovery volunteers that will make rounds between the college, downtown Hurley and Ironwood and will be picking up and dropping off passengers. A variety of foods will be sold including the Iron Nugget’s Italian Platter and Cole’s Foundation will be cooking up corn on the cob and other grillables on Friday evening. Come and walk with your family and friends, and help us to celebrate, remember, and fight back!
