March Regular Meeting of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - Personnel matters topped the agenda at the regular meeting for March of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees. Monica Powers, of Billings, Montana, was hired as the new Dean of Student Services to replace Steve Wesselhoft, who will retire at the end of June. Powers holds a Masters in Education from Eastern New Mexico University and is currently defending her dissertation for her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is currently the Director of Student Opportunity Services at Montana State University-Billings and has been in the student services field for over 16 years. Karen Balyeat, of Ironwood, was appointed to a full time on campus Allied Health instructional position. She replaces Kit Malloy, who will retire at the end of the academic year. Balyeat holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN. She holds a Michigan licensure as a Registered Nurse and has certifications in a number of specialty areas. In addition, she has teaching experience and has 27 years of professional work experience. Kristi Montonati, Bessemer, has been hired for a part time position of Administrative Assistant of the TRIO Program. She replaces Delaine Maki, who has retired. Montonati will graduate from GCC in May with an Associate of Arts degree and is a work study office assistant in the GCC Admissions Office. She is currently a TRIO student. The Board also accepted the resignation of Stephanie Justinak as the GCC Volleyball Coach and authorized the administration to seek a new coach for the vacated position. Justinak will remain as the GCC Woman’s Basketball coach, student life coordinator, and as a Freshman Seminar instructor. In other action: · Bids were solicited for financial audit services for a three year period. The agreement was awarded to Joki, Makela, Pollack & Ahonen, of Ironwood. · The low bid from Action Printing, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, was accepted for printing the 2010-2012 college catalog. · The candidates for graduation were approved, pending satisfactory completion of their degree and graduation requirements. Commencement exercises will be held on Friday, May 7 at 7:00 PM at the Lindquist Student Center for 173 graduates. |
