Next Generation Initiative to Hold Big Group Gathering & Open House

HURLEY, WI - by Will Andresen - Thursday, March 11, 2010 - In The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell talks about “social epidemics” and how they affect change: “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do.” Like measles spreading through a third grade class, a good idea (or fashion trend or whatever) will spread if and only if it is exposed to people, eventually infesting the population, and creating change.

Unlike measles, we’re trying to spread something good, namely Rebecca Ryan’s “live first” message that in order to attract and retain young people on the Gogebic Range, we need to create the kind of community that today’s young people will be attracted to. Along with other economic development efforts, we hope that this message – and our related actions - will help reverse our decades-long population decline.

Come and hear what the four work-groups are doing to prepare for the next generation by attending the NGI “Big Group Gathering and Open House” this coming Monday night (March 15), 6:00 PM in Room B-21 at GCC (see map of campus: http://www.gogebic.cc.mi.us/aboutGCC/campusmap.shtm)

And, please pass the word onto your friends, family, co-workers or whoever you think may be interested – let’s spread the virus!
