Hurley's Last Blast Set for Evening of May 29th
HURLEY, WI - Monday, March 29, 2010 - Hurley’s Last Blast has been a successful event for the past 5 years. The Last Blast (aka Operation Graduation) for the graduating seniors of Hurley is set for the evening of May 29, 2010 at Gogebic Community College from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM. The Last Blast event provides an awesome opportunity for graduating seniors to relax, have fun, reminisce and be together one last time as a class on the evening of graduation in an alcohol-free environment. Attendance at this annual event has been excellent! The proactive approach sends a message to the community as well as promoting the idea that young adults can have fun, spend time together and celebrate graduation without alcohol or substances. Attendees also have an opportunity to win fabulous prizes throughout the evening. Each student does receive cash and a prize before they depart in the morning. Seniors are bussed from the Iron County Sheriff’s department to Gogebic Community College . All students are given a breathalyzer before they can board the bus. We have never had a problem with any of the students. The attendance rate is over 90% of the class and they have a great time. The Seniors do a variety of fundraising to reach their goal of $4,000.00 - $4,500.00 for this event. The money raised pays for the food, entertainment, activities and prizes. Every year each graduating class plans their own food and activities. Each one is unique and special to that class. We are looking for continued partnership for this event to supplement our efforts as we fund-raise throughout the year. We are asking groups, organizations, individuals and past alumni to please consider making a donation to the Hurley Last Blast account c/o the Hurley School District . Checks can be written to: Hurley School Last Blast. We appreciate your support as this event could not happen without you! For more information please contact Leola Maslanka at 561-4900 ext. 203. |
