Relay for Life Coming to Gogebic Range
American Cancer Society’s signature event will empower community to fight back against cancerIRONWOOD, MI - by Geneva Smiles -Tuesday, May 4, 2010 – The American Cancer Society and Gogebic and Iron County residents are planning to rally together to fight cancer at the Relay for Life on June 11 and 12 at the Gogebic Community College. Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event, where teams of people celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and empower individuals and communities to fight back against a disease that takes too much. As the Society's signature event, Relay has been bringing cancer survivors and anyone touched by the disease together for more than 20 years. Held overnight in honor of the fact that cancer never sleeps, Relay For Life has grown from a single event in Tacoma, Wash. that raised $27,000 to the largest grassroots movement nationwide. More than 4,800 communities throughout the U.S. now host an American Cancer Society Relay For Life event and have raised more than $2.6 billion dollars for the fight against cancer. The Society is currently looking for community members who want to get involved in the planning stages of the number one not-for-profit event in the nation. An informational team captain’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 5th. 2010, at the Comfort Inn in Ironwood. Please call area chairperson, Todd Haeger for more details at 715-360-6377. Geneva Smiles
