Iron County UWEX has a new Horticulture & Youth Assistant

HURLEY, WI - Tuesday, May 11, 2010 - Maggie Callaham is the new Iron County UW-Extension Summer Horticulture and Youth Assistant. As part of the Extension staff, Callaham will provide Horticulture educational support for Iron County. Callaham is a certified Wisconsin Master Gardener. Combined with her past experience as a Master Gardener in the state of Virginia, she brings over 15 years of trained horticulture experience to the office.

An avid gardener for all of her adult life, Callaham will share university research based information and her practical experience on lawn care, trees, fruit plants, vegetable growing and flower gardening. She will be able to utilize the expertise of UW Horticulture, Entomology and Plant Pathology specialists to help answer your questions and solve horticulture problems.

Callaham has previously served the UW System as Director of Entrepreneurship for the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and her Masters in Business Administration is from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

Horticulture services available through the UW-Extension Office include information bulletins on a wide variety of horticulture topics, assistance with insect and pest identification and damage control, plant disease identification, soil testing and educational materials in a variety of media.

Iron County UW-Extension’s summer horticulture services will be available until early fall 2010. Office hours at the Iron County Courthouse will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Questions and insect or plant specimens may be directed to the Iron County University of Wisconsin Extension office anytime during the week, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Iron County Courthouse in Hurley.
