Two Dead in Two Car Fatal Crash on US-2 Bayfield County

KEYSTONE, WI - Sunday, November 14, 2010 - Snow covered conditions along U.S. Highway 2 in Bayfield County resulted in a two vehicle accident leaving two people dead.

Numerous calls reporting a two car accident on U.S. Highway 2 in the town of Keystone, between Iron River and US-Highway 63 were received by the Bayfield County communications center beginning at approximately 10:41 Saturday morning.

Emergency responders found the drivers of both vehicles deceased and a passenger was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

According to the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department, the snow-covered, icy, road conditions played a role in the crash. The names of the drivers and passenger are being withheld pending notification of family. More information will be posted as it is received.

UPDATE:  According to WDIO TV 10 out of Duluth, Minnesota, "The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.  Killed were a 62-year-old woman from Hurley and a 70-year-old man from Ashland.  Names were not immediately released as family had not been notified."

"A 32-year-old woman from Hurley, who was a passenger in the SUV, suffered a life-threatening injury."

UPDATE:  According to a release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, "Killed in the crash were Paula J. Rouse, 62, of Hurley and 70-year-old Donald L. Farley of Ashland. Heather Kopnick, 32, of Hurley, who was a passenger in Rouse's vehicle, was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth with life threatening injuries."
