FMMHP to Hold Trail Clearing Bee Satuday Morning
IRONWOOD, MI - Friday, November 19, 2010 - The Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park (FMMHP) is going to have a trail clearing work bee this Saturday, November 20 starting at 9:00 a.m. A plan has been developed by our trails committee to clear a cross-country ski trail that will connect portions of SISU Ski trail to create a nice ski and snow-shoeing loop within the Miners Memorial Heritage Park. Once this loop is made, we hope to have groomed ski trails through the winter. We hope to have a cross-country ski or snow shoeing event the day or week after the SISU SKI Fest. These are big and exciting goals, but only possible if we can get a trail cleared before the snow gets deep! This plan was approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Ironwood, so this is authorized trail building. Four specific areas have been identified that need to be cleared to make this loop possible. Work will involve cutting and moving fallen trees, as well as brushing and trimming branches. If you want to make a difference in the community, come help us on Saturday! Meet in the central compost area. To get there, turn onto Frenchtown Road at the corner of McCleod and Lake Streets. The first left is the entrance to the compost site. Drive down the compost road to where there are mounds of compost. Bring any brush cutting tools such as loppers, shears, small brush saws, swede saws, #2 shovels, spades, picks and the like. Most likely there will be some extra equipment if you don't have any tools. Make sure to dress warmly! What a very exciting plan! Monie Shackleford
