Ironwood Theatre to Hold Open House Tuesday, October 5th
IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, September 29, 2010 - The historic Ironwood Theatre invites the Range Community to a Volunteer Open House on Tuesday, October 5th, beginning at 7:00 pm. The free evening of information sharing will give people a chance to acquaint themselves with the Theatre and its needs for their time, talent, and funds while enjoying light refreshments and entertainment from amateur local talent on stage. “What we are really looking for are volunteers with the time and interest to take on projects or chair committees,” says Jackie Powers, volunteer coordinator. Particular roles to be filled include the treasurer, new members on the board of directors, program planning committee, and fund raising committee. No time, but money to spare? Program sponsors are integral to the Theatre’s future as well. Theatre memberships start at $10 and also enable the Theatre to carry out its mission of entertaining the Range community and caring for our historic landmark. Board members and other Theatre staff will be on hand to answer any questions guests have about the Theatre and its needs. Currently, the Theatre is completing another phase of restoration, returning the entry concourse and mezzanine to their original state. Guests will be able to see the hand-stenciled border that adds elegance to the concourse area. Ironwood’s Barton organ, recently returned from its final stage of restoration, will also be on display for guests to see and hear. Guided tours of the theatre will be available throughout the evening. Beginning at 7:30, a number of area student performers will provide on-stage entertainment, including musical solos, poetry and prose readings. Staff will be available to assist guests in becoming a member, sponsoring a program, joining the board of directors, and purchasing tickets to October shows, including Clearwater Hot Club October 9th... ...and the Lowell St. Band October 28th & 29th.
With the present state of the economy, particularly with the elimination of all arts funding in Michigan, volunteers and donors are going to be vitally important for the future of the Theatre. Anyone interested in becoming a Theatre volunteer, member, donor, or sponsor is especially encouraged to attend. Interested parties may also contact the Theatre at (906) 932-0618. The Theatre office is open Wednesday through Friday, from 11:00 – 5:00. www.ironwoodtheatre.net.
