Organizers Readying for SISU Weekend

IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - The second annual SISU Ski Fest is THIS weekend, January 14 – 16th. Registrations are still climbing for the 42K SISU marathon, 21K Heikki Lunta half marathon, Taste N Tour, and the Free Lapset Loppet (children’s race). The 10K Taste n Tour offers four delectable food stations along the gentle course with tasty fare from sixteen local restaurants, and only about 60 spots remain open!

Late registrations are welcome on Friday from 4:00-10:00 pm and Saturday from 7:00-8:30 am (for racers) and 7:00-11:00 am for the Taste N Tour participants at the Ironwood Memorial Building. Also stop in and visit the vendor booths at the Ski Expo on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00–4:00 pm.

All events begin at ABR Trails and end downtown on Aurora Street so come on down and cheer for the racers and take part in the ‘Shop SISU Saturday’ promotional sale! Customers have a chance to win up to $500 in reimbursement s for their purchases in participating downtown stores. Join the crowd at the Awards Ceremony at the Historic Ironwood Theatre for camaraderie on Saturday evening from 5:00–6:30 pm and don’t miss an evening of fun with the Lowell Street Band starting at 8:00 pm.

A SISU Snowshoe event for the community will be held on Sunday January 16 at the Ironwood School’s bus garage on Ayer Street. Registration will take place between 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm, activities will run until 4:00 pm, and include an open ski on the SISU trail, snowshoe races, guided snowshoe tours of the caves, and contests for all ages. A SISU volunteer appreciation banquet will begin at 4:30 pm at the Aurora Club.
